Trout Fishing

Wheat Harvest in Chitral

Growing wheat has remained very old in Chitral. I could not find any written record of wheat growing in District Chitral. So through the oral history, before the modern agriculture, there were some local varieties of wheat known as "TUFF" and the other was...... People were growing it using manure and some compost. After the arrival of British it little improved because the British army started buying access wheat. It increased the people's interest in growing wheat. People of Chitral were cutting the wheat by sickle. After cutting it binding sheaves was compulsory. To seperate the grain it was common to use cows and some other animals. After spreading the sheaves on a leveled field, a rope tied to the horn or around the head of five to seven animals in a row. The first cow was called 'MARE' in local language. Then a man walk the animals in a circle till the grain separate. After it winnowing was common. For winnowing people used a wooden shavel like tool. By observing wind direction winnowing was performed.

Cliff, sky scraper
It is not a skyscraper building, it is cliff near Kuju Payeen. This view fascinate me always. I took this picture some years ago. This naked rock had protected the village from intruders in past. In past people had defended their villages by building some defence packets at safe points over the village. This rock was more suitable to build a packet for defence.

winter in Chitral

Pumkins

Although Pumkin is the vegitable grown in hot summer but it is
called the vegitable of winter because all over the world people
use it in winter. In Chitral, specially people love it. In Chitrali
language it is called "Shreen Alook". According to wikipedia.com
alone in  US its production is about 1.5 billion pounds
(680,000,000 kilograms or 680,000 tonnes).
In Chitral production data for Pumpkin is not availabel. But it is
very popular among the masses. In winter every household in some way arrange
minimum one or two rather buy it or beg it  from some one. Here people
use it  as main dish coocked with more spices. Some time use it as sauce made of it
along side main dish.

wood carving, in Chitral,

Wood Work, Chitral, Pakistan
History of wood carving in Chitral is very old. One can find its evidence in almost every house. But not patronizing by the government, it has declined.  Some good artisans have transmitted it to new generation. Mr, Rasool Muhammad of Mori Bala is one of them. He has mastered  his son Rashid in wood carving. The father of Rasool Muhammad; Loot Ustad, was a great master in wood carving. He was very famous in his time. He had decorated so many houses and important government buildings. DC office is one of them. Wali ur Rehaman(late) house situated at Zargarandeh is also decorated by him. This  pic is made by Rasool Muhammad and is showing his aptness in his work.

Chitral Air port is also visible from here. One old PIA's Foker has been grounded  here near the airport. The Importance of airport is very heigh in every Chitrali's life. Because during the routine clouser of Lawari top for more than six months from the rest of the country every one should think of his escape only via airport. The flight for Chitral is also weather dependent. If there is little change in weather, flight will not opperate.

A beautiful view in Golain Valley, Roghil. It is just half an hour distance to Golain Gol Power House intake area but due to  lake of information most tourist even chitrali tourists miss this area. a lot of  people daily visits the area if they spear little more time they can enjoy this place even in winter season if they have to adventure with snow safely.
